The Director of School Services at the Kano State Senior Secondary Schools Management Board (KSSSMB), Malam Sani Haladu, has attributed the performance of Kano students in the 2026 NECO examinations to the sustained investment in education by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration.

Haladu stated this while briefing journalists at the Kano Government House during the 2026 World Teachers’ Day celebration organised by the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Kano State chapter, at the Coronation Hall.

According to him, the state government had given education priority since the beginning of the present administration, with various interventions aimed at addressing challenges in the sector.

He cited the renovation and rehabilitation of classroom blocks across the 44 local government areas as one of the administration’s major interventions.

Haladu also highlighted the recruitment of more than 20,000 teachers, describing the exercise as an important step towards addressing the shortage of teachers in schools across the state.

He said the government’s efforts were also aimed at tackling the problem of out-of-school children and improving access to quality education.

The official further identified the government’s efforts to integrate Tsangaya, Almajiri and Islamiyya schools into the formal education system as another major intervention in the education sector.

He said a committee had been established under the chairmanship of the state Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, SAN Abdulkarim Kabir Maude Minjibir, to review issues surrounding the integration of the schools.

Haladu added that several Tsangaya and Almajiri schools had benefited from government interventions, including the distribution of food items, provision of boreholes and the supply of detergents and bathing soap.

He said these interventions, alongside other measures in the education sector, had contributed to creating a better learning environment for students across the state.

Commenting on the 2026 NECO results, Haladu said the performance of Kano students was a reflection of the government’s continued attention to education.

He described the reported performance as a significant achievement for the state, while commending teachers, students, parents and other stakeholders for their contributions to the development of education in Kano.

Haladu said the state government would continue to support policies and programmes aimed at improving learning outcomes and strengthening the education sector.
