From Umar Danladi Ado, Sokoto
Alhaji Umar Ajiya Isa, popularly known as Ajiyan Sokoto, has formally declared his intention to contest the Sokoto East Senatorial District seat in the 2027 general elections on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The declaration was contained in a statement issued by the Ajiyan Sokoto Coordination Committee in support of the APC.
According to the statement, the decision followed sustained calls from party leaders, political associates, and constituents across the district’s eight local government areas urging him to join the race.
The statement, signed by a retired Permanent Secretary, Nasiru Yahaya Isa, who chairs the coordination committee, also called on supporters and stakeholders to avoid divisive politics and embrace peaceful, issue-based engagement ahead of the 2027 polls.
“Ajiyan Sokoto has been the subject of sustained calls from the people of Sokoto East Senatorial District to offer himself for service at the National Assembly as a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“These calls have emanated from the leadership of the APC at all levels, political associates, friends, family members, and constituents across the eight local governments of Sokoto East.
“In keeping with his tradition of consultation and respect for the people’s will, Ajiyan Sokoto undertook wide engagements to understand the aspirations of his constituents.
“Guided by the principle vox populi, vox Dei, the voice of the people is the voice of God, and inspired by his lifelong dedication to community service and philanthropy, Alhaji Umar Ajiya Isa hereby accepts the call to serve,” the statement read.
It added that Ajiya Isa’s decision to contest is driven by a commitment to deliver purposeful and impactful representation for the people of Sokoto East.
“This declaration is not driven by personal ambition or self-aggrandizement but by a sincere commitment to uplift the people of Sokoto East through effective representation.
“His entry into politics remains anchored on service. While navigating the political terrain, he reaffirms his unwavering loyalty to party leaders, whose guidance and mentorship continue to shape his vision.
“Ajiyan Sokoto deeply appreciates the people of Sokoto East Senatorial District for their support and confidence in him.
“On his behalf, we appeal to supporters, stakeholders, party faithful, and the good people of Sokoto East to reject politics of bitterness and embrace issue-based engagement.
“Let us work together in peace and unity for the progress of our district, Sokoto State, and Nigeria at large,” the statement added.
