Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang of Plateau State has held strategic consultations with former legislators, serving councillors, former local government chairmen and academics to strengthen unity and build political consensus ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The meeting, held at the New Government House, Rayfield, Jos, on Thursday, October 29, 2026, focused on the need for Plateau residents to overcome political differences, consolidate their electoral strength and speak with one voice to attract greater development and opportunities to the state.

The Forum of Former State Legislators, led by Rt. Hon. Joshua Madaki Izang, commended Governor Mutfwang for his developmental efforts across the 17 local government areas of the state.

The forum, comprising former lawmakers who served under different political parties, pledged to mobilise grassroots support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Mutfwang in the 2027 general elections.

It formally endorsed both leaders through a motion moved by Hon. Sadat Garga and seconded by Hon. Kaneng Gyang Fulani. The forum also appealed for greater representation of its members in the campaign council.

Welcoming the delegation, Governor Mutfwang described former legislators as custodians of valuable institutional knowledge and experience that could guide younger generations and contribute to the development of the state.

He urged them to rise above partisan affiliations and unite around a common Plateau agenda anchored on peace, unity and prosperity.

The governor stressed the need for Plateau to consolidate its political strength and secure a stronger voice in national affairs.

He explained that his decision to join the All Progressives Congress (APC) was motivated by the desire to reduce political rivalry, promote collaboration and advance the collective interests of the state.

Mutfwang cited the ongoing Akwanga–Jos Road and Mararaban Jama’a–Mangu–Kanke–Shendam–Ibi Road projects as examples of the benefits of constructive engagement and cooperation with the Federal Government.

He expressed confidence that stronger political collaboration would create further opportunities for infrastructure development and economic growth.

The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving security, healthcare, education, agriculture, transportation, urban renewal and tourism.

He noted that deliberate investments in these sectors were laying a solid foundation for sustainable growth and improved livelihoods across the state.

Mutfwang also held consultations with the Forum of Serving Councillors, led by Hon. Buba Allahyafi Samson; the Forum of Former Local Government Chairmen, led by Hon. Joseph Guluwa; and Academics for Tinubu/Mutfwang 2027, led by Prof. Lazarus Maigoro.

The discussions emphasised the importance of unity, grassroots mobilisation and collective political participation in ensuring that Plateau State attracts greater attention in national decision-making and development initiatives.

The governor called on all stakeholders to embrace a shared vision for the state, stressing that Plateau’s diversity should remain a source of strength.

He maintained that the state’s future prosperity depended on a united people working towards common goals.
