ALU TV International Nigeria has organised a one-day in-house training for its news reporters and presenters ahead of the 2027 General Elections, with a charge to uphold professionalism, accuracy and ethical standards in election reporting.

The training, held on Saturday, August 15, 2026, in Sokoto, was themed: “Media and Elections: Roles, Ethics and Professional Responsibilities Ahead of the 2027 General Elections.”

Speaking at the event, the General Manager of ALU TV International Nigeria, Bashar Abubakar, said the station remained committed to credible, balanced and development-oriented journalism.

He urged journalists to avoid misinformation, hate speech and external pressure as political activities intensify, stressing the need to provide the public with verified and factual information.

“As we approach the 2027 General Elections, our responsibility is to promote peaceful democratic participation, national unity and the integrity of the electoral process,” Abubakar said.

He said the training covered the role of the media in elections, the responsibilities of television reporters during political campaigns, and the professional relationship between journalists, political parties and candidates.

Abubakar also appreciated the Founder of ALU TV International Nigeria, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, for his continued support to the station and thanked the resource persons for sharing their expertise.

The Chairman of the occasion, Abubakar Dangusau, Senior Special Assistant to Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State on Electronic Media and a former Managing Director of ALU TV International Nigeria, commended the station’s management for organising the training.

Dangusau said the training was timely, particularly with political activities ahead of the 2027 elections.

One of the resource persons, Dr Umar Magaji Umar of the Department of Political Science, Sokoto State University, presented a paper titled “The Media and Electoral Process: Roles, Responsibilities, and Challenges in Voter Education, Credible Elections, and Good Governance.”

The immediate past Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Sokoto State Council, and National Ex-officio, Zone A, Dalhatu Abdullahi, presented a paper titled “Role of a TV Reporter During Political Activities and Elections.”

A veteran journalist based in Sokoto State, Bashir Rabe Mani, also presented a paper titled “Working Guide for Journalists: Ethical and Diligent Coverage of Political Campaigns and Elections.”

The three resource persons commended the management of the station and emphasised the importance of continuous training in promoting diligent, ethical and professional journalism.

Participants also commended the management for providing them with the opportunity to improve their professional capacity and pledged to apply the knowledge gained before, during and after the 2027 General Elections.
