From Shuaibu Ibrahim Gusau

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Zamfara North senatorial aspirant, Dr. Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi, has explained why he filed a suit at the Federal High Court in Gusau challenging the senatorial primary election held on May 19, 2026, in the state.

He lamented that there was no APC primary election in Zamfara North Senatorial District.

In the suit, the APC and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were listed as defendants.

He is seeking to nullify the declaration of Senator Sahabi Ya’u Kaura as the party’s candidate for the 2027 general election.

Speaking with newsmen shortly after filing the case today at the Federal High Court in Gusau, counsel to the plaintiff, Barr. Bello Galadi, said the primary election was marred by irregularities and did not comply with the Electoral Act.

“We have just filed a case against the APC and INEC over the injustice that has been meted out to my client.

“We expect the court to administer justice, rectify the problems, and do what is fair.

“Our major concern is that there was no primary. We are very certain of this. Under Section 84, for a consensus to be valid, two conditions must be met: there must be a written agreement, and it must be endorsed by all aspirants,” he stated

The plaintiff is asking the court to declare the primary election null and void and to order the APC to conduct a fresh primary for the Zamfara North Senatorial District.
