Kano State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery with the official commissioning and opening of three flagship healthcare projects executed by the State Health Trust Fund (KHETFUND), marking another significant milestone in the transformation of the state’s health sector.
The commissioning ceremony was led by the state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, who officially declared the projects open for public use.
The Executive Secretary of KHETFUND, Dr. Fatima Usman Zaharaddeen, formally presented the interventions, describing them as strategic investments aimed at improving healthcare infrastructure, expanding access to quality medical services and enhancing patient care across the state.
The three landmark projects commissioned are the World-Class Emergency Unit at Gezawa General Hospital, the Modern Physiotherapy and Gymnastics Centre at Sheikh Muhammad Jidda General Hospital and the renovation and upgrade of Jambulo Health Post in Kabuga, Gwale Local Government Area.
The newly constructed World-Class Emergency Unit at Gezawa General Hospital is expected to significantly strengthen emergency medical services by providing a modern facility equipped to manage critical and life-threatening conditions.
The intervention is designed to improve emergency response, reduce treatment delays, and enhance patient outcomes, making Gezawa General Hospital the direct beneficiary of this strategic investment.
At Sheikh Muhammad Jidda General Hospital, KHETFUND has delivered a Modern Physiotherapy and Gymnastics Centre built to international standards under the stewardship of Dr. Fatima Usman Zaharaddeen.
The hospital is the direct beneficiary of this landmark intervention, which is expected to expand specialised physiotherapy and rehabilitation services for patients recovering from trauma, surgery, stroke and other disabling conditions.
The project represents a major milestone in advancing rehabilitation medicine and improving specialised healthcare services in the state.
The Fund also completed the renovation and upgrade of Jambulo Health Post in Kabuga, Gwale Local Government Area. .
The upgraded health facility has been transformed into a more functional and patient-friendly primary healthcare centre, improving access to essential healthcare services for residents of Jambulo and neighbouring communities while strengthening healthcare delivery at the grassroots.
Speaking during the ceremony, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Yusuf, commended the administration of the state governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, for its unwavering commitment to improving healthcare through strategic investments in infrastructure and quality service delivery.
The commissioner also applauded KHETFUND for its professionalism, transparency and effective implementation of impactful projects that continue to improve healthcare services and positively affect the lives of the people of the state.
In her remarks, the Executive Secretary of KHETFUND, Dr. Fatima Usman Zaharaddeen, said the commissioned projects reflect the Fund’s vision of building a resilient, modern and patient-centred healthcare system capable of meeting the growing healthcare needs of the state.
According to her, the projects are not merely physical structures but long-term investments that will strengthen emergency care, expand rehabilitation services, improve primary healthcare delivery, support healthcare professionals, and ultimately achieve better health outcomes for the people of the state.
She reaffirmed KHETFUND’s commitment to transparency, accountability, prudent utilisation of public resources, and the execution of sustainable interventions that will continue to transform healthcare delivery across the state.
The commissioning and official opening of these three flagship healthcare projects underscore the determination of the state government to provide accessible, affordable and high-quality healthcare services for all citizens.
They also reaffirmed KHETFUND’s pivotal role in driving healthcare transformation and supporting the vision of Governor Yusuf, to build a stronger, more responsive and sustainable health system for the people of the state.
