The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Federal University of Agriculture Zuru (FUAZ) branch in Kebbi State, has issued a 21-day ultimatum to the institution’s governing council and management over alleged failure to implement the Federal Government-ASUU agreement.
The union announced the ultimatum after its congress held at the FUAZ auditorium on July 28, 2026, expressing concern over what it described as the non-implementation of agreements that had been extended to other federal universities.
In a statement signed by the branch Chairman, Comrade Danbauchi Ishaq Sanchi, ASUU listed some of its grievances to include the non-payment of the 40 per cent upward review of academic allowances and other outstanding entitlements owed to members.
“The Honourable Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa, reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to the implementation of the agreement and issued the necessary circular directing compliance,” the statement said.
The union chairman further stated that the Federal Government had released funds to federal universities for the payment of five months’ accumulated Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance (CATA) arrears, but alleged that FUAZ staff were denied the benefit.
He said the situation was disappointing, especially as FUAZ was the only federal university established and made operational without a take-off grant.
“Despite these challenges, members of ASUU-FUAZ have continued to discharge their academic responsibilities with dedication, professionalism and patience, hoping that the situation would be resolved,” he added.
However, after exhausting what it described as reasonable efforts towards an amicable resolution, the FUAZ-ASUU congress resolved to issue a 21-day ultimatum effective from July 29, 2026.
The union warned that failure by the management and governing council to address its demands within the stipulated period would result in industrial action.
The union demanded the immediate implementation of the 2025 Federal Government-ASUU agreement in its entirety at FUAZ, as well as the payment of five months’ accumulated CATA arrears and other outstanding financial obligations.
The congress, which reached the resolution, was attended by ASUU national representatives, including Comrade Lawal Argungu, Comrade Murtala Abdullahi from Kwara State, Aliyu Ahmed, and the ASUU Sokoto Zone Coordinator, Professor Abubakar Sabo.
