Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has unveiled a ₦50,000 monthly empowerment grant for 5,200 women across the state, aimed at strengthening women’s economic empowerment, self-reliance and household livelihoods.
This was contained in a statement issued by the governor’s spokesman, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, on Monday.
Governor Yusuf unveiled the programme on Monday at the Open Theatre, Government House, Kano, saying the initiative was designed to provide women with the resources needed to establish sustainable businesses and improve their economic wellbeing.
He urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the grants by investing in viable businesses and other income-generating ventures that would improve their living conditions and provide better opportunities for their families.
The Governor said his administration had established mechanisms to ensure that the programme reaches the intended beneficiaries, stressing that transparency, fairness and accountability would guide its implementation.
Speaking at the occasion, the Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud Bunkure, commended Governor Yusuf for his commitment to supporting vulnerable members of society, particularly women.
She urged the beneficiaries to reciprocate the gesture by supporting the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections, saying such support would enable Kano to sustain its development and good governance.
Also speaking on behalf of the Kano State Council of Emirs, the Emir of Gaya, Dr. Aliyu Ibrahim Abdulkadir, commended the initiative, describing it as a laudable intervention capable of improving the economic wellbeing of women and their families.
He also praised the Kano State Government for its ongoing development projects and interventions across the state, noting that the programmes were making meaningful impact at the grassroots.
