Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, on Monday joined his counterparts from the North-West geopolitical zone in Hadejia, Jigawa State, for the official launch of the National Community Food Bank Programme (NCFBP) by the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, on Tuesday.
The event, which attracted governors, ministers, traditional rulers, and other senior government officials, was aimed at strengthening efforts to combat food insecurity and improve nutrition among vulnerable households, particularly pregnant women, nursing mothers, and children under the age of six.
Governor Yusuf described the initiative as a timely intervention that complements the efforts of state governments in tackling malnutrition and food insecurity across the country.
He reaffirmed the Kano State Government’s commitment to implementing policies and programmes that promote food security, improve healthcare delivery, and enhance the welfare of the people, especially the most vulnerable members of society.
The National Community Food Bank Programme, launched under the Renewed Hope Initiative, is designed to provide nutritious food to vulnerable groups through Primary Healthcare Centres as part of efforts to reduce child malnutrition and hunger nationwide.
Governors from Kebbi, Zamfara, Sokoto, Katsina, Kaduna, Kano, and Jigawa States were present to receive the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, during her historic visit to Hadejia, Jigawa State, for the official launch of the programme.
