The Kano State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, has commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for what he described as the remarkable transformation recorded in the state’s health sector over the past three years.
Speaking during an interview with journalists as part of activities marking Governor Yusuf’s third anniversary in office, the commissioner said the administration had revitalized healthcare delivery, upgraded health facilities, and restored public confidence in government hospitals.
According to Dr. Labaran, the health sector has undergone significant reforms, including the recruitment of healthcare personnel, rehabilitation of medical facilities, improved access to essential medicines, and expansion of healthcare services across the state.
He revealed that more than 200 health workers have been recruited under the current administration, while over 2,000 applicants have successfully undergone screening and are awaiting final approval for employment.
The commissioner noted that before the present administration assumed office, many public health facilities were grappling with severe shortages of essential medicines and inadequate manpower.
He explained that the government not only restored the regular supply of drugs to health facilities but also settled outstanding debts owed to pharmaceutical suppliers, thereby improving the availability of medications in public hospitals.
“Governor Yusuf inherited a healthcare system facing enormous challenges, but through commitment, strategic planning, and targeted interventions, healthcare delivery has improved substantially across Kano State,” he said.
Dr. Labaran further disclosed that hundreds of healthcare personnel were engaged under the Abba Care Initiative to strengthen service delivery at primary healthcare centres and expand access to quality healthcare at the grassroots level.
He added that the administration has introduced regulatory measures for private hospitals and traditional medicine practitioners to ensure compliance with professional standards and enhance patient safety.
The commissioner maintained that the reforms implemented by the Yusuf administration have laid a solid foundation for a more responsive, efficient, and sustainable healthcare system in the state.
He described Governor Yusuf’s support and commitment to the health sector as instrumental to the achievements recorded so far and expressed optimism that even greater progress would be achieved in the coming years.
“The health sector in Kano has witnessed unprecedented transformation under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
“The foundation has been laid for a stronger and more resilient healthcare system that will continue to serve the people effectively,” he stated.
