The Director of the Professional Women Directorate for the 2027 Presidential and Governorship Elections in Kano State, Dr Maryam Shetty, has launched an initiative demonstrating her commitment to women’s inclusion and empowerment.
The initiative has received fresh attention following the launch of the APC Kano Professional Women website, aimed at connecting professional women across the state’s 44 local government areas.
The Director of the APC Kano Professional Women Directorate, Dr Maryam Shetty, disclosed this during an interview in Kano, where she expressed excitement over her appointment and commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for what she described as his commitment to inclusivity and the advancement of women.
Dr Shetty described her appointment as a great honour and privilege, noting that the establishment of the directorate represents a significant step towards recognising the contributions of professional women to Kano’s political and social development.
According to her, the initiative is designed to mobilise doctors, pharmacists, nurses, lawyers and other professionals, providing them with an organised platform to participate in public affairs and access opportunities for empowerment.
She explained that the newly launched website would serve as a registration platform for professional women across the 44 local government areas, adding that the directorate aims to reach approximately 500,000 women through the initiative.
Dr Shetty said the registration process was simple and would enable the directorate to build a database that could facilitate communication, engagement and access to planned empowerment programmes.
She urged women in Kano State to take advantage of the platform by registering and participating in the initiative, stressing that women have important roles to play in family development, leadership and the wider society.
The directorate head also disclosed that efforts were underway to engage Nigerians in the diaspora and other relevant organisations to promote awareness of the initiative and showcase activities associated with the governor’s administration beyond Kano State.
She further expressed confidence in the directorate’s ability to deliver on its mandate, saying its activities would focus on women’s participation, professional engagement and empowerment.
Dr Shetty called on women across Kano State to join the initiative, emphasising that their participation would be important in ensuring that they remain connected to opportunities and programmes organised through the directorate.
