The Kano State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, has commended the 15th Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, for respecting security directives and prioritising peace in the state.
Bakori made the commendation during a courtesy visit to Emir Bayero at his palace in Nasarawa, Kano, following the monarch’s notification to security authorities of his intention to embark on a horse-riding procession to Yakasai to attend a Qur’anic graduation ceremony.
The Commissioner said the purpose of the visit was to appeal to the Emir to suspend the planned horse ride in the interest of public safety and peace.
He explained that although security authorities had directed anyone planning a public Durbar or horse-riding activity to provide at least 72 hours’ prior written notice, the authorities were now appealing for the planned procession to be cancelled.
Bakori urged Emir Bayero to travel to the event by vehicle, as he had traditionally done, stressing that the security agencies were concerned about preventing activities that could create tension or threaten public order.
The Commissioner described Emir Bayero as a law-abiding traditional ruler who had consistently respected security directives.
He also appealed to Alhaji Aminu Babba Dan’agundi, Sarkin Dawaki Babba and Senior Councillor to the Emir of Kano, to continue supporting the monarch and encouraging cooperation with security authorities.
Responding, Emir Bayero thanked the Commissioner and his delegation for the visit and assured them of his cooperation.
The Emir said the peace and stability of Kano remained a priority and pledged to continue supporting efforts aimed at maintaining public order.
The development comes amid renewed security concerns surrounding horse-riding and Durbar activities in Kano.
The police had earlier reiterated that restrictions on such activities remained in force and applied to everyone, regardless of status or position.
The police have also said that any individual, institution or organisation intending to conduct a public Durbar or horse-riding activity must submit written notice to the Kano State Police Command at least 72 hours in advance to enable security assessment and necessary arrangements.
