The Deputy Governor of Kano State, Murtala Sule Garo, on Saturday paid a condolence visit to the family of renowned Islamic scholar, Sheikh Ibrahim Gwani Tahir, who died on Friday at the age of 80.
Garo visited the residence of the late cleric in Yakasai quarters of Kano where family members, associates and sympathisers had gathered to mourn the respected scholar.
During the visit, the deputy governor described the death of the Islamic scholar as a huge loss to Kano State, the Muslim community and the country at large.
He said the late cleric dedicated his life to Islamic scholarship, moral guidance and community development, leaving behind a legacy that would continue to inspire generations.
“The death of Sheikh Ibrahim Gwani Tahir is not only a loss to his family, but a painful loss to the entire Islamic community and all those who benefitted from his wisdom, teachings and lifelong service to humanity,” Garo said.
He added, “The late scholar devoted his entire life to the propagation of Islam, scholarship and the moral upbringing of society. His contributions to religious enlightenment and peaceful coexistence will continue to be remembered.”
The deputy governor prayed for the peaceful repose of the deceased and asked Allah to grant the family the strength to bear the loss.
“On behalf of the Kano State Government, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the family, associates and followers of the late Sheikh. May Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus,” he said.
Among those present during the condolence visit were family members of the deceased, including Yusuf Ibrahim Gwani and Sheikh Hadi Gwani Tahir.
The late Sheikh Ibrahim Gwani Tahir was widely respected for his religious teachings and influence across Kano and other parts of Northern Nigeria.
