The Kano State Ministry of Religious Affairs has intensified efforts to promote religious harmony, support Islamic activities, and attract development partnerships aimed at improving education, healthcare, and social welfare across the state.

The Commissioner for Religious Affairs, Sheikh Ahmad Tijjani Auwalu, disclosed this while highlighting the achievements of the ministry under the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

According to the commissioner, the ministry has strengthened collaboration among Islamic scholars, leading to regular Qur’anic recitations and special prayers for peace, unity, and stability across Kano State.

He said the ministry has also expanded government support for Islamic programmes, including Qur’anic recitation competitions, religious conferences, and other faith-based activities designed to promote moral values and peaceful coexistence.

Auwalu revealed that the ministry recently engaged with several Arab-based organisations, which have expressed readiness to partner with the Kano State Government in providing schools, potable water projects, and free healthcare services, including eye care programmes.

He added that the ministry’s activities, particularly its collaboration with the Kano State Hisbah Board, have attracted international attention.

According to him, representatives of international organisations recently visited Kano to study the state’s approach to Hisbah operations and the management of religious affairs.

The commissioner explained that the state government made it clear that no individual is compelled to embrace any religion, stressing that freedom of religion is fully respected while the ministry continues to promote justice, dialogue, and peaceful coexistence among all residents.

He further stated that the ministry does not favour any Islamic sect or religious group, noting that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has consistently directed all government institutions to uphold fairness, inclusiveness, and equality in the discharge of their responsibilities.

Commending the governor’s support for religious institutions, Auwalu said the administration has continued to provide assistance for Hajj operations, Ramadan feeding programmes, mass wedding initiatives, and other social intervention schemes that directly benefit residents.
