The Kano State Government has reiterated its commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with the United Kingdom in key sectors including governance, healthcare, education and economic development.
The state Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, stated this during a courtesy visit by a delegation from the British High Commission to the Government House in Kano.
The governor, who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Murtala Sule Garo, said the visit reflected a shared commitment towards deepening cooperation and strategic dialogue between Kano State and the UK.
This was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mustapha Muhammad.
According to Yusuf, the state government highly values the partnership and support of the British High Commission in critical sectors that directly affect the lives of residents.
“The Kano State Government highly values the support and partnership of the British High Commission in critical sectors that directly impact the lives of our people, including governance reforms, education, healthcare, economic development and social inclusion,” he said.
The governor added that greater progress could be achieved through partnerships built on trust, transparency and shared responsibility.
He noted that the engagement also provided an opportunity to review collective progress, exchange ideas and reaffirm commitment to the Mutual Accountability Framework.
Yusuf further assured development partners that his administration remained committed to creating an enabling environment for effective collaboration towards building a prosperous and inclusive Kano State.
“We remain fully committed to creating an enabling environment for development partners to contribute effectively to the vision of a more prosperous, inclusive and economically vibrant Kano State,” he added.
Earlier, the leader of the British High Commission delegation and Head of Development Cooperation, Cynthia Rowe, said the visit was aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation in critical areas.
She identified economic growth through investment as one of the key priorities of the partnership.
“The first is economic growth through investment. This includes improving access to finance, encouraging private sector participation, introducing de-risking guarantees and supporting initiatives that can stimulate economic development in both Nigeria and Kano State,” she said.
Rowe also identified security and stabilisation as another major focus area, noting that investors and businesses require a stable environment to operate effectively.
According to her, strengthening systems in healthcare, education, agriculture and governance also remains central to the partnership between the British High Commission and Kano State.
