From Muawuya Bala Idris, Katsina
The Katsina State Grand Khadi and Chairman of the State Sharia Commission, Professor Mohammed Kabir Abubakar, has pledged to support the Katsina State Hisbah Board in strengthening its operations across the state.
Professor Abubakar made the commitment when officials of the board, led by its Commandant General, Sheikh Aminu Abu Ammar, paid him a courtesy visit.
He said his office would identify areas of collaboration with the board to help it achieve its mandate in accordance with the teachings of the Holy Qur’an and the Hadith of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
“It is mandatory for every Muslim to support Hisbah. We will assist the board to operate without any hitch,” he said.
The Grand Khadi, however, cautioned officials and staff of the Hisbah Board against exceeding the limits of the law establishing the organisation.
“I advise you not to overstep your boundaries. Hisbah is not a security outfit, so you should be careful while carrying out your activities,” he warned.
He further advised the board to always liaise with security agencies when carrying out arrests and house searches to avoid unnecessary confrontations with members of the public.
“You should use wisdom, be patient and enlighten people about your operations,” he said.
Professor Abubakar commended the Hisbah Board for its achievements, particularly in reconciling disputes between couples, addressing moral decadence in society, counselling and rehabilitating suspected drug addicts, and promoting Islamic teachings.
Earlier, the Commandant General, Sheikh Aminu Abu Ammar, said the visit was aimed at seeking the Grand Khadi’s cooperation and assistance for the smooth operation of the board.
He disclosed that the board was facing challenges in carrying out some of its duties due to the refusal of some Magistrate Courts to grant warrants for the arrest of suspects under investigation.
Aminu said that since its establishment, the Hisbah Board had reconciled more than 7,000 disputes between couples and dismantled locations and clubs allegedly involved in immoral activities.
