The Katsina State Government has paid over N2 billion in compensation to property owners affected by the construction of the CPS–Kofar Yandaka road project within the Katsina metropolitan area.
The Commissioner for Land and Survey, Dr. Faisal Kaita, distributed cheques to the affected residents during an event held at the Katsina Local Government Secretariat.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Aminu Ibrahim, the commissioner said the road project was designed to decongest the metropolitan area and improve movement within the city.
He explained that the CPS–Kofar Yandaka road project was part of the urban renewal initiatives embarked upon by the administration of Governor Dikko Radda to boost economic activities and facilitate the expansion of the city.
Kaita directed residents affected by the project to vacate their properties within two weeks to allow the contractors to commence construction work.
“We appeal to you to give maximum cooperation to the contractors for the smooth execution of the road project,” he said.
Earlier, the member representing Katsina Local Government Area, Ali Abu Alibaba, commended Governor Dikko Radda for awarding the project, which he said had been on the city’s master plan for more than 40 years.
“We have agitated for this road project for over 40 years. Today, we thank Allah that our dream has been transformed into reality,” Alibaba said.
He said the project would not only help decongest the metropolitan area but also boost business activities and contribute to the beautification of the state capital.
Alibaba urged the affected residents to make good use of their compensation, advising them against spending the money extravagantly or using it to marry another wife.
In his remarks, the Vice Chairman of Katsina Local Government, Usman Yusuf Saulawa, said the state had witnessed transformation in various sectors, including the economy, education, water supply and youth empowerment, within three years of the Radda administration.
Saulawa assured residents that the local government council would continue to support the government and ensure the successful execution of ongoing projects in the area.
