Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, has reassured students of consistent and timely payment of scholarships, reaffirming his administration’s unwavering commitment to education and youth development.
The governor gave the assurance during an award ceremony organized by the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) in honour of Alhaji Sa’idu Buhari Warah, Permanent Secretary in the state Ministry of Youth and Sports, held at the state Secretariat on Sunday.
According to a statement signed by Abdullahi Idris Sadaukin Zuru, Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy to the Governor, Idris emphasized that his government remains dedicated to sustaining regular scholarship payments for Kebbi tertiary students both within Nigeria and abroad.
He revealed that the administration has so far cleared over ₦4 billion in accumulated debts from unpaid scholarships, tuition fees, and other related expenses, while ensuring that current beneficiaries receive their payments without delay.
Governor Idris noted that education remains the foundation of societal development, saying his government’s actions are aimed at enhancing academic performance, easing the financial burden on parents, and creating a more conducive learning atmosphere across the state.
“Our goal is to ensure that no child in Kebbi State is denied education due to financial hardship. We are committed to supporting every student to reach their full potential,” he stated.
Among other interventions, the governor disclosed that the state increased its monthly school feeding budget from ₦150 million to ₦300 million, lifted the embargo on employment, and recruited over 2,000 teachers to strengthen the education sector.
He added that Kebbi remains one of the few states in Nigeria offering 100% free education and scholarships to all categories of students — a policy aimed at ensuring inclusiveness and sustainable development.
