Katsina State Government has concluded arrangements to conduct a mass wedding for 1,000 intending couples selected from across the state.

A pre-marital counselling and training programme was already organized for the couples by a non-governmental organization (NGO), the Al-Usra Marital Support Foundation.

The sessions were held across the Katsina, Daura, and Funtua zones.

Speaking at the event, the Chairperson of the Foundation, Dr. Murjanatu Ibrahim Duwan, said the training was aimed at strengthening family values and reducing divorce.

“The initiative was designed to equip intending couples with the knowledge and skills required to build stable and successful marriages,” she said.

She added that the training covered Islamic perspectives on marriage, conflict resolution, and strategies for sustaining a stable home.

Dr. Ibrahim Duwan also urged the couples to apply what they had learned to ensure happy and peaceful marriages.

Earlier, the Commandant-General of the Hisbah Board, Dr. Aminu Usman, described the mass wedding as the first of its kind in the state, noting that it would help reduce immorality.

He said the state government would provide the couples with necessary support, including start-up capital for grooms to begin small businesses.

He added that the board would continue to monitor the couples to ensure peaceful and successful marriages.

In her remarks, the State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hajiya Aishatu Aminu Malumfashi, said the initiative aims to prevent couples, especially women from falling into immorality.

Represented by Amina Sada Mashi, she disclosed that beneficiaries of the mass wedding had undergone various tests, including genotype and HIV screening.
