Troops of Operation Fansan Yamma have rescued seven kidnapped farmers and recovered motorcycles from bandits who attacked farmers in Gandi community, Rabah Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
A credible security source disclosed the development to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Sokoto, saying troops of the 8 Division of the Nigerian Army deployed in Gandi carried out the operation on Tuesday.
According to the source, the troops’ encounter with the bandits led to one civilian sustaining a gunshot injury.
The victim has since been taken to the General Hospital, Gandi, for medical treatment.
The source, who requested anonymity due to lack of authorisation to speak to the press, said proactive measures were being taken to protect lives and property, as well as provide security support for farming activities in the area.
The source also urged farmers and residents to remain vigilant, adding that the quick response and commitment of the troops helped save lives and prevent further losses.
