Plateau State Governor, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has expressed deep sorrow over the crash of a Nigerian Air Force ATR-42 aircraft, NAF 931, in Igbokoda, Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The aircraft, which was on a routine mission from Benin City to Lagos, crashed in a swampy area near the Naval Base in Igbokoda on Monday, October 5, 2026.

The Nigerian Air Force later confirmed that all 25 people on board, comprising five crew members and 20 passengers, lost their lives.

In a condolence message signed by his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Dr Gyang Bere, Governor Mutfwang described the incident as a painful tragedy and a great loss to the nation, particularly at a time when personnel of the Nigerian Armed Forces continue to make sacrifices in the service of the country.

The governor commended the fallen personnel for their courage, patriotism and dedication to duty, saying their sacrifices represented the highest ideals of service to the nation and humanity.

Mutfwang extended his condolences to the bereaved families, colleagues and loved ones of the victims, praying that God would grant them strength and comfort to bear the loss.

He also sympathised with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Nigerian Air Force, the Armed Forces of Nigeria and the people of the country over the tragic incident.

On behalf of the Plateau State Government and people, the governor prayed for comfort for the grieving families and colleagues of the victims, as well as eternal rest for those who lost their lives.

He further prayed that God would grant the bereaved families the fortitude to bear the painful and irreparable loss.
