The NACCIMA Foundation has launched a bold initiative to plant one billion economic trees across Nigeria, a campaign designed to tackle climate change, boost the nation’s green economy, and create sustainable livelihoods for millions of citizens.
Speaking at the unveiling ceremony in Abuja on Wednesday, the President of NACCIMA and Chairman of the Organized Private Sector of Nigeria (OPSN), Engr. Jani Ibrahim, mni, OON, described the campaign as a demonstration of the Foundation’s strong commitment to climate action, environmental sustainability, and wealth creation for future generations.
He explained that the project will not only restore degraded land but also generate jobs, provide food, and supply industrial raw materials—directly supporting Nigeria’s aspiration of achieving a $1 trillion economy.
“The planting of economic trees offers multiple benefits. It empowers communities, supports MSMEs, and strengthens our drive for sustainable development,” Ibrahim said.
The initiative, according to him, will actively engage youths, women, and local communities while fostering collaboration with relevant government ministries, departments, and agencies, alongside development partners and the private sector.
He added that the campaign would also complement the Federal Government’s Great Green Wall initiative.
Engr. Ibrahim called on Nigerians, especially private sector players and civil society organizations, to support the drive, stressing that a greener Nigeria would translate into a wealthier and more sustainable future.
