A novelty football match was held in Calabar, Cross River State, to celebrate the appointment of Alhaji Nasiru Baba Gombe as Special Assistant to the Governor on Livestock and Ranching.
The friendly encounter, organised by members of the football community, featured Diamond Stars Football Club and New Vision FC. Diamond Stars FC emerged victorious with a 1–0 win.
Speaking after the match, one of the organisers, Alhaji Baba Gombe, said the event was organised to honour the former captain of the club for his recent appointment and to celebrate his achievement.
He noted that the match was also aimed at recognising Nasiru’s dedication to public service and the pride his appointment has brought to his football family and the wider community.
According to the organisers, the event also served as an expression of appreciation to the Governor of Cross River State for finding Nasiru worthy of the appointment and entrusting him with the responsibility of serving the state, particularly in the livestock and ranching sector.
They reaffirmed their support for the state government’s commitment to inclusive governance and community development, expressing confidence that the new Special Assistant would contribute meaningfully to the growth of the sector.
