The Plateau State Head of Civil Service, Mr Stephen Pam Gadong, has said that a successful career in the civil service requires proper planning, discipline, continuous learning and a clear understanding of the responsibilities of public service.

Gadong made this known at the commencement of a training programme for civil servants organised by the Department of Training, Office of the Head of Civil Service.

Represented by the Permanent Secretary, General Administration, Mrs Rabecca Sasheet, Esq., he noted that a career in the civil service marks the beginning of a journey of service, personal growth and contribution to the development of the state.

Sasheet encouraged participants to take the training seriously and prepare early not only for a productive career but also for life after active service.

She urged civil servants to uphold integrity, accountability, commitment and respect for the rules of the service as they progress in their careers.

She added that the quality of public service depends largely on the attitudes and conduct of individual civil servants.

Speaking earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Establishment, Mrs Jummai Shekarau, described the training as timely and necessary, stressing that retirement planning should begin from the first day of employment rather than towards the end of one’s working life.

She said the programme was designed to help civil servants look beyond their immediate responsibilities and think strategically about their long-term well-being.

Shekarau urged participants to engage actively in the training, expressing confidence that the knowledge gained would benefit them personally and contribute to greater effectiveness and peace of mind throughout their careers.
