Torrential rainfall has displaced more than 200 families and destroyed several shops and properties worth millions of naira in Dangamu Village, Kusada Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The incident occurred barely two weeks after a heavy downpour claimed the lives of two people in the Janbango area of Katsina metropolis.
Reports indicate that several communities across different local government areas in the state have been affected by heavy rainfall over the past month, leaving many residents homeless and causing extensive damage to property and farmlands.
Katsina is one of the northern states that experiences recurring flood-related disasters during the rainy season. Despite efforts by the Katsina State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and other relevant stakeholders to mitigate the impact of flooding, the state continues to record significant losses of lives, property, and agricultural land each year.
The 2026 Seasonal Climate Prediction identified 14 local government areas in Katsina State as high-risk flood zones due to expected heavy rainfall.
Reacting to the latest disaster, Governor Dikko Umar Radda expressed sympathy with the victims of Dangamu Village, describing the destruction of homes and property as a tragic hardship for affected families.
“On behalf of the government and the good people of Katsina State, I commiserate with the victims of this disaster in Dangamu Village. We will not leave you alone at this difficult time,” the governor said.
Governor Radda directed relevant government agencies to immediately assess the extent of the damage and ensure a swift response.
He also assured residents that the state government was making arrangements to provide emergency relief materials and other forms of support to affected households.
