The Ringo Sport Club Nigeria has commenced the landmark Nigerian Service Personnel Ringo Sport Training Programme (NISPRISPORT) 2026, an initiative designed to integrate service personnel into the mainstream of Nigerian Ringo and Ring Tennis sports and foster a new generation of professional athletes.
The training programme, which kicked off today at Package ‘B’ of the MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, has attracted more than 60 officers and personnel from various Nigerian paramilitary agencies.
The intensive programme is designed to equip participants with core skills, technical knowledge and competitive strategies required to excel in Ringo sport.
Speaking at the opening of the training programme, the National President of Ringo Sport Club Nigeria, Malam Ahmed Mohammed Sule, welcomed all participants and underscored the transformative potential of the initiative.
He urged the trainees to approach the programme with discipline, commitment and dedication, which he described as key values of both military service and sporting excellence.
Malam Ahmed described the training not merely as an exercise but as a career-defining opportunity for participants to become certified professionals and ambassadors of Ringo sport.
He said the trainees represented the future champions who would have the opportunity to represent Nigeria on the global stage in Ringo and Ring Tennis tournaments.
In a broader call to action, the National President of Ringo Sport Club appealed to the public and private sectors to support the growth of Ringo sport in Nigeria.
He noted that the sport, which once thrived in the country during the 1970s, offers immense potential for grassroots development, youth engagement and economic growth through sports tourism.
He added that greater collaboration between government agencies and private-sector stakeholders was essential to unlocking the socio-economic benefits of Ringo sport, which is already attracting support from key institutions such as the Nigerian Tourism Development Authority (NTDA), News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) and Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), among others.
The NISPRISPORT 2026 marks the beginning of multi-sectoral training programmes for agencies across all levels and strata of Nigeria’s public and private sectors, reaffirming the Club’s commitment to promoting sportsmanship and physical fitness within the Nigerian sports sector.
The training programme will continue on Wednesday following the Tuesday public holiday declared to mark the Eid-el-Maulud celebration.
Ringo Sport Club Nigeria is a premier sports club dedicated to promoting the once-popular sport of Ringo in Nigeria, fostering cross-sectoral collaboration and supporting general sports development.
The Club also seeks to explore the intersection between sports and tourism as a means of contributing to Nigeria’s economic growth.
