The Kano State Ministry of Health has conducted an assessment visit to the Primary Healthcare Centre (PHC) in Unguwa Uku, Tarauni LGA, to review services for malnourished children and strengthen healthcare delivery at the community level.

The delegation, led by the Director of Public Health and Disease Control, Dr. Ibrahim Aliyu Gano, on behalf of the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, reiterated government’s commitment to improving access to quality healthcare across the state.

The move was made on Monday in an official statement issued and signed by the Public Relations Officer of the Ministry, Nabilusi Abubakar K/Na’isa, and made available to the AHR correspondent.

Dr. Gano commended PHC Head, Hajiya Aisha Ahmad Usman, for her dedication to managing the centre and ensuring vulnerable children receive adequate care. He also appreciated the support of Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), represented by Project Coordinator Dr. Hemmed Lukonge, for their partnership in tackling malnutrition and strengthening the health system.

Highlighting the state’s investment, Dr. Gano disclosed that over ₦1 billion has been committed to the procurement of Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF), provided free of charge to children suffering from malnutrition. He noted that the visit aimed at assessing treatment outcomes, as well as the distribution and utilization of RUTF in the centre.

“The welfare of our children is a top priority for this administration. Working with our partners, we are determined to reduce the burden of malnutrition and secure a healthier future for our young ones,” he said.

The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening PHC services and ensuring that every child, regardless of background, has access to essential health and nutrition services.
