From Umar Danladi Ado, Sokoto
Governor Ahmad Aliyu of Sokoto State has donated a total of N4 million and 40 bags of rice to four families affected by a recent bandit attack in Shagari Local Government Area, as part of efforts to ease their hardship and provide support during their period of grief.
Each family received N1 million and 10 bags of rice from the state government.
Presenting the assistance on behalf of the governor, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Ibrahim Dadi Adare, reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to supporting victims of insecurity and strengthening efforts to restore peace across the state.
He stressed the need for parents, community leaders, and other stakeholders to collaborate with security agencies in the fight against banditry and other criminal activities.
According to him, parents play a critical role in shaping the character and conduct of their children and should ensure they do not engage in activities capable of threatening the peace and stability of society.
Adare described informants who provide intelligence to bandits as one of the major challenges undermining security efforts, urging residents to remain vigilant and assist security agencies with useful information.
“We must all rise to the challenge of reversing the tide of banditry and other criminal activities in our communities. With collective support and cooperation, we can overcome these security challenges,” he said.
The commissioner recalled that Sokoto State had long been known for peace, unity, and stability before the emergence of banditry, which has disrupted the lives of many communities.
He called on residents to promptly report suspicious movements and unfamiliar individuals within their localities, noting that community participation remains vital in tackling insecurity.
“Security is a collective responsibility. No individual has the right to take another person’s life except by the will of Allah. We must therefore work together to protect our communities,” Adare added.
The relief materials were presented in the presence of the Chairman of Shagari Local Government, Barrister Maidawa, the State Commissioner for Finance, Muhammad Jabbi Shagari, security personnel, traditional leaders, and other dignitaries.
The beneficiaries and community leaders expressed appreciation to Governor Aliyu for the gesture, describing it as timely support that would help cushion the impact of their loss.
