The Cross River State Police Command has confirmed a fire incident involving a petroleum tanker opposite the Odukpani Local Government Secretariat in Odukpani Local Government Area of the state.
The incident occurred on Sunday, October 4, 2026.
According to preliminary information available to the Command, the tanker, which was conveying petroleum products, was involved in a road traffic accident and overturned, resulting in a fire that spread to nearby shops and buildings.
The Command’s spokesperson, ASP Sunday Eitokpha Akata, said the tanker driver, who was reportedly trapped in the fire, was rescued and taken to a hospital for medical attention.
Police officers from the Odukpani Division are currently at the scene to maintain safety, secure the area and prevent further harm to members of the public.
The Fire Service has also been alerted and deployed to contain and extinguish the fire.
As of the time of filing this report, no death had been confirmed.
However, several shops and vehicles were reportedly affected by the fire.
The Police Command urged members of the public to stay away from the immediate area and allow emergency responders unhindered access to the scene.
The Command said further updates would be communicated as verified information becomes available.
