The Director-General of the Voice of Nigeria (VON), Mallam Jibrin Baba Ndace, has called on the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON) to review and streamline its regulations and procedures to reflect the realities of modern advertising technology.
Ndace made the call while speaking at the ARCON Conference 2026, themed “Advertising: Way Out and Its Focus Related to Modern Technology Stakeholders in Advertising,” held in Lagos.
According to a statement issued to media representatives by Abdul Mohammed Isa, Special Adviser to the VON Director-General, Ndace urged ARCON to embrace emerging technologies, particularly Artificial Intelligence (AI), to promote growth and development in Nigeria’s advertising industry.
The VON Director-General, who represented the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, said technological advancement was changing the advertising landscape and creating new opportunities for practitioners.
He noted that creativity and innovation must go hand in hand with advertising, stressing the need for stakeholders to adapt to emerging technologies while maintaining professional standards and ethical practices.
Ndace said the rapid development of AI applications was already changing the way advertisements are created, distributed and consumed, making it necessary for regulators and practitioners to review existing approaches.
He therefore urged ARCON and other stakeholders in the advertising sector to develop policies and procedures that would encourage innovation while ensuring compliance with professional ethics and regulatory standards.
