The Yobe State Police Command has arrested two suspected members of a kidnapping syndicate operating in Gujba Local Government Area and recovered 26 goats suspected to have been stolen.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Dungus Abdulkareem, disclosed this in a statement, saying the breakthrough followed a kidnapping incident reported at the Gujba Divisional Police Headquarters on July 7, 2026.
According to him, armed men had abducted one Idi Musa of Kolmamaji Village, Gujba LGA, and took away his Kasea motorcycle before fleeing to an unknown destination.
He said the Police immediately launched a coordinated search-and-rescue operation, supported by intelligence gathering, to rescue the victim and track down the perpetrators.
The PPRO stated that the victim later escaped from the kidnappers’ hideout on July 10 and provided useful information that assisted investigators.
“Based on the intelligence gathered, Police operatives on July 11 arrested two suspects identified as Musa Damuna, 23, and Yusufa Muhammad Bello, 21, both from Mutai Ward in Gujba Local Government Area,” he said.
He added that 26 goats suspected to have been stolen were recovered during the operation, while preliminary investigations revealed that the victim’s motorcycle had already been disposed of before the suspects were arrested.
Efforts are ongoing to recover the motorcycle and arrest other members of the syndicate still at large.
The suspects are currently in Police custody and will be prosecuted after the completion of investigations.
The Yobe State Commissioner of Police, CP Usman Kanfani Jibrin, psc, mspsp, commended the officers involved in the operation and charged personnel of the command to sustain proactive and intelligence-driven policing.
He also urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies, assuring the public of the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
