The Kano State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (KSCHMA), under the leadership of its Executive Secretary, Dr. Rahila Aliyu Muktar, has commenced a two-day Technical Review Workshop in Kaduna to review the agency’s 2026 Operational Guidelines.

According to a statement issued by Abubakar Umar Muhammad (Nr. Gwani) Kafin Maiyaki, the workshop is part of the healthcare reform agenda of the Kano State Government under the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

The statement said the initiative aims to improve healthcare delivery and expand access to affordable, quality healthcare services across the state.

Supported by the FCDO Lafiya Programme and the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI), the workshop is reviewing KSCHMA’s operational framework to align it with the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) Act 2022, the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund (BHCPF) 2.0 Guidelines, and international best practices.

According to the statement, the review is focused on strengthening efficiency, transparency, accountability, and the overall quality of healthcare services.

The workshop has brought together KSCHMA management, representatives of the NHIA, and development partners to strengthen health insurance governance, address implementation challenges, and develop practical strategies for expanding affordable, high-quality, people-centred healthcare services across Kano State.

Speaking at the opening session, Dr. Rahila Aliyu Muktar described the review as a critical step toward building a stronger, more sustainable, and responsive health insurance system that supports the Kano First Agenda and advances the state’s commitment to Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

She said the revised operational guidelines would enhance institutional performance, strengthen public confidence in the health insurance scheme, and ensure that affordable, quality healthcare reaches every household, with particular attention to vulnerable populations.

The statement added that the initiative further demonstrates the commitment of the Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf-led administration to strengthening health insurance, accelerating progress toward Universal Health Coverage (UHC), and ensuring that no resident of Kano State is left behind in accessing affordable, quality healthcare.
