The Minister of Housing and Urban Development Architect Ahmed Musa Dangiwa has laid the construction foundation of 250 housing units in Sokoto on Monday.

Architect Dangiwa said 50,000 housing units would be constructed across the country under the programme.

This Estate comprises 50 units of 1-bedroom semi-detached bungalows, 150 units of 2-bedroom semi-detached bungalows, and 50 units of 3-bedroom semi-detached bungalows.

The Minister therefore, charged the 4 firms involved in the execution of the project within 3 months as stipulated in the contract agreement.

He thanked Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto for the granting the request of the land for the project promptly.

In a welcome address, the Minister of state in the ministry Engineer Abdullahi Tijjani Gwarzo said the project was part of the nation-wide Renewed Hope Estate lunched this year in Abuja.

The 50 housing units estate project will create job opportunities at the construction sites to brackelayers,plumbers ,electricians ,traders and suppliers of building materials .

“We look forward to a quality construction works and timely completion of the projects”.

In his remarks,Governor Ahmed Aliyu said his administration has allocated a land free for the construction of Sokoto Renewed Hope Estate at Kwannawa area,Sokoto.

Aliyu said this was in consideration of the immense benefits of the programme to people in the state.

He said that was part of the state government’s commitment toward providing Housing to low and medium income earners.

The governor explained that work for the construction of 500 housing units at Wajeke in Wamakko local government area awarded by the government is going on smoothly.

Similarly,work for the construction of Gidan Salanke Housing estate abandoned by the immediate past administration is now progressing.

He assured that work for the execution of the 2 estates would be completed in no distant period.

The governor further said 136 Housing units at Kwannawa area, under the National Housing Unit Programme were purchased by the state government.

The governor who was represented by his Deputy Engineer Idris Mohammed Gobir, said already payment to that effect has already been made.

He also thanked the ministry of Housing and Urban Development for choosing Sokoto among the 12 states to benefit from the programme.

Speaking on behalf of the contracting firms ,Alhaji Muhammad Aliyu Bello,the scope of works has a total number of 250 houses and over 30,000 jobs approximately would be created at the construction site of the project.

Those to benefits includes artisans,engineers , labourer among others .

He assures to use local contents during the construction projects adding that even the construction of the roads network was being handle by indigenous contractors and ensured that no any expertrate working in the site.

The project is being manage by the local engineers and the specification of the projects is being followed ,the standard is there and the three months completion period will be adhered .
