The Adamawa Police Command has expressed displeasure over the use of social media under the guise of ‘Freedom of Epressy’ to threaten, intimidate and harrasement citizen.

The scenario, State Command of the Police has arrested a 31-year-old man, Buriba Israel, over alleged cyber-bullying and criminal intimidation of First-Class Chiefs in the Numan Federation.

Hail from Jambutu in Yola South Local Government Area, is the suspect who was reportedly arrested in a formal complaint and police investigation into publications allegedly made through his Facebook account, Buriba Israel.

In a statement signed by the Command image maker, Public SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Adamawa State Command, on August 21, 2026.

The preliminary investigations carried out the state Police command indicates that, the suspect allegedly circulated social media posts containing accusations against the traditional ruler.

The Command however described the publications as offensive and disparaging, saying they were capable of undermining the reputation and dignity of the traditional institutions and their members.

According to the Command who noted that, relevant electronic devices and other materials believed to be connected to the alleged offences have been recovered and are currently undergoing forensic examination as investigations continue.

Stressed that, “although citizens have the constitutional right to freedom of expression, such freedom must be exercised responsibly and within the confines of the law.”

The Command therefore, warned that “the use of social media to harass, threaten, intimidate, defame or deliberately circulate harmful content against individuals or institutions would not be tolerated.”

The Commissioner of Police, Adamawa State Command, CP Kabir Umar Hassan, has directed that the case be thoroughly investigated and that the suspect face the full wrath of the law if found culpable.

Hassan reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the dignity of traditional institutions, maintaining public order and preventing the misuse of the digital space for criminal intimidation, Cyber- bulling and other unlawful activities.
