From Umar Danladi Ado, Sokoto

As political activities gradually gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections, the political landscape in Sokoto State has continued to witness defections, particularly from the opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The latest defection involves a House of Representatives aspirant for the Bodinga/Dange-Shuni/Tureta Federal Constituency, Hon. Maniru Ibrahim Shuni, popularly known as Barden Shuni, who has defected from the ADC to the APC.

Explaining his decision, Shuni cited what he described as a lack of foresight and effective leadership within his former party.

He said his decision to join the APC was also influenced by the developmental programmes and projects being implemented by the administration of Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday in Sokoto by Bashar Abubakar, SA Media and Publicity to Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, the APC leader in Sokoto State received Shuni at his Asokoro residence in Abuja.

Senator Wamakko welcomed Shuni into the APC and assured him of equal treatment and inclusion in the party.

He reaffirmed the APC’s commitment to supporting programmes and development initiatives aimed at improving the living conditions of the people of Sokoto State.

Also present at the reception were the Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammad Maigari Dingyadi; the Speaker of the Sokoto State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Tukur Bala Bodinga; and other party stakeholders.
