The Chairman of Shanono Local Government Area, Hon. Abubakar Barau, has distributed newly procured vehicles and refurbished patrol cars to security agencies in the council, in a renewed push to curb rising insecurity linked to bandits infiltrating from neighbouring Katsina State.

The development was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Chairman’s spokesperson, Ammar Shanono, who said the intervention was aimed at improving mobility, response time and operational efficiency of security personnel stationed in the area.

According to the statement, the beneficiaries include the Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Army, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the local Civilian Joint Task Force (JTF), all of whom have been engaged in routine patrols and counter-banditry operations across the council.

While handing over the vehicles, Hon. Barau urged the agencies to “make judicious and responsible use of the vehicles,” emphasising that the safety of residents remained his administration’s top priority.

“The safety of our people remains our top priority. We will continue to provide every necessary support to our security forces to ensure peace returns fully to all our communities,” he was quoted as saying.

The chairman acknowledged the recent series of attacks reported in some border communities and assured that the council was working closely with security formations and traditional leaders to restore normalcy.

He also commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for supporting local government efforts to strengthen security architecture across Kano State.

Traditional rulers, security heads, community leaders and members of the local government council attended the event and described the intervention as timely, given the security pressures facing rural communities.
