From Sani Gazas Chinade, Damaturu
Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has sworn in two commissioners, a Permanent Secretary and 17 newly elected local government chairmen, urging them to prioritise service delivery, accountability and the welfare of residents.
The ceremony, held on Wednesday at the Government House in Damaturu, marked a new phase in the state’s executive and grassroots administration.
During the ceremony, Buni swore in Dr Abubakar Bukar Kagu as Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, while Dauda Alhaji Idi was appointed Commissioner for Livestock Development.
The governor also inaugurated Barrister Fatima Ibrahim Makintami as Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Justice.
Buni said the appointments were based on merit, experience and commitment to public service, urging the appointees to discharge their responsibilities diligently and prioritise the interests of the people.
Buni Highlights Grassroots Democracy
Addressing the 17 newly elected local government chairmen, the governor emphasised the importance of grassroots democracy and effective service delivery at the local government level.
He noted that Yobe State had recently been ranked second in democratic performance, scoring approximately 64.3 per cent in a nationwide assessment conducted by the Kimpact Development Initiative.
Our administration has remained consistent in conducting local government council elections to give the people at the grassroots a sense of belonging,” Buni said.
The governor also highlighted his administration’s achievements in the health sector, citing complex surgical procedures performed at the Yobe State University Teaching Hospital and Damaturu Specialist Hospital.
He further pointed to the attainment of full accreditation for postgraduate residency training from the West African Colleges of Physicians and Surgeons as a significant development in the state’s healthcare sector.
Governor Charges Chairmen on APC Loyalty
Buni reminded the newly elected local government chairmen of their responsibilities to the people and their political party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He urged them to work towards the party’s success in the forthcoming general elections, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid and the governorship ambition of Baba Malam Wali.
“It is a task that must be achieved because Yobe State is the home of the All Progressives Congress,” the governor declared.
He also urged political stakeholders across party lines to conduct their activities within the provisions of the law and established electoral rules.
Reflecting on the state’s experience with security challenges, Buni cautioned against actions capable of undermining the prevailing peace and stability in Yobe State.
The ceremony was attended by senior government officials, traditional rulers, security chiefs, family members of the newly sworn-in officials and other dignitaries.
