From Musa Muhammad Kutama, Calabar
The Muslim community in Nasarawa, Calabar Municipal Local Government Area of Cross River State, has appealed to members of the public to support efforts aimed at reconstructing and securing the community graveyard.
The Chief of the Hausa/Fulani Muslim Community in Nasarawa, Alhaji Sani Baba Gombe, made the appeal during an interview with journalists in his palace.
According to him, the graveyard is facing serious challenges, including inadequate fencing and erosion caused by rainfall, which threatens the resting place of the deceased.
He explained that the community urgently needs funds and support in cash or kind to rebuild the demarcation walls and construct proper drainage channels to control the flow of rainwater.
“The major challenge facing the graveyard is the absence of a proper fence. There is a need for collective effort to raise funds for the reconstruction of the graveyard’s demarcation walls,” he said.
Alhaji Baba Gombe further called on Muslims within and outside his area of jurisdiction to contribute towards the project.
He noted that uncontrolled floodwater passing through the graveyard has continued to cause damage to the site, stressing the need for immediate intervention to preserve the dignity of the burial ground.
