The 35th Anniversary and the Annual General National Scientific Conference organized by the Professional Association of Public Health Nurses of Nigeria (PAPHNON) focuses on challenges facing the profession.

Speaking at the occasion, the national chairman of the association, Professor Addakano Bello Umar, a lecturer with Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, said the event gives room for state branches the chance to narrate progress and challenges and share experiences for fruitful results.

A statement issued to The Triumph by Nura Bala Ajingi on Monday quoted the Professor emphasizing the urgent need to address the pressing concerns of their members.

Professor Addakano Bello, who is the first female Professor in the Profession in the Northern region, encourages women to show a keen interest in advancing their studies for the benefit of society.

Speaking earlier, the Kano State Chapter chairman of the association, Comrade Samira Ahmed, spoke on the significance of the Profession as well as taking more preventive measures against communicable diseases.

She called on governments and donor agencies to support the sector for better results.

The commissioner of health, Dr Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, represented by the Executive Secretary of the Private Health Institutions Agency, Professor Salisu Ahmed Ibrahim, decried the level of misconduct and negligence of duty by some young health personnel and maltreatment of patients.

He explained that the Kano state government had invested more in routine immunizations, controlling communicable diseases and malaria, improving the condition of Medical Personnel, regular visits and monitoring of health facilities.

The Commissioner assured of government commitment towards the renovation of health facilities, supply of commodities and effective healthcare delivery across the state.

The principal School of Hygiene Kano, Malam Jamilu Shu’aibu Muhammad, the State chairman of the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives, Comrade Ibrahim Maikarfi Muhammad assured of the support the association towards effective implementation of government policies and programs as they affect the health sector.

Other dignitaries that attended the occasion include WAHEB Registrar, Mrs Bola Oladejo, Dr. Umar Yunusa and Professor MB Muktar of Bayero University Kano, who served as Chairman of the occasion.
