From Musa Muhammad Kutama, Calabar

Concerned citizens of Dutsen Bakoshi in Shanono Local Government Area of Kano State, currently residing in the South-South region of the country, have called on the Kano State Government under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to urgently intervene over the worsening condition of the Dutsen Bakoshi Earth Dam, whose water they described as a serious threat to human and animal lives.

The spokesperson of the community, Alhaji Musa Balarabe, made the appeal in an interview with our reporter.

According to him, the water from the earth dam has turned greenish, raising fears of contamination and possible outbreak of waterborne diseases among residents and their livestock.

“We are seriously worried because the water has changed colour and appears contaminated. It has become a major threat to the lives of the inhabitants and their animals,” he said.

Alhaji Balarabe further expressed concern over the possible spread of cholera and other water-related diseases if urgent measures are not taken by the relevant authorities.

He explained that the earth dam remains the only major source of drinking water for the community, making the situation more alarming for residents.

The Dutsen Bakoshi community also appealed to members of the National Assembly to support efforts aimed at providing a lasting solution to the water crisis affecting the area.

The residents expressed hope that the Kano State Government would swiftly intervene to alleviate the suffering of the people and ensure access to safe and clean drinking water.
