Crisis is brewing within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Katsina State following the endorsement of Yusuf Buhari and the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Nasiru Yahaya, as sole candidates for the House of Representatives and the Daura Senatorial seat.

Last week, Triumph reported that, APC stakeholders in Sandamu Local Government Area, led by former Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Sani Sa’idu Fago, and the council chairman, Usman Na Lado, endorsed Yusuf Buhari, son of former President Muhammadu Buhari as the sole candidate for the Daura/Sandamu/Mai’adua Federal Constituency.

The stakeholders also endorsed Nasiru Yahaya as the party’s candidate for the Daura Senatorial seat.

It was further gathered that Yahaya enjoys the backing of the Special Adviser on Political Matters, Yau Gwajo Gwajo, as well as 12 members of the State House of Assembly from the Daura zone.

However, a group of stakeholders from Daura, Mai’adua, Zango and Baure Local Government Areas, led by Barrister Ahmed Al-Marzug, has rejected the endorsement by the Sandamu stakeholders.

At an emergency meeting, Al-Marzug said the endorsement of Yusuf Buhari and Yahaya as sole candidates contravenes the party’s constitution and does not reflect the will of the majority of party members.

“The APC provides for either consensus or open contest. Any attempt to impose candidates will not be accepted,” he said.

He warned that imposing candidates without due process could trigger a crisis within the party.

Al-Marzug also dismissed claims that Yusuf Buhari and Speaker Yahaya have the backing of Governor Dikko Radda.

Reacting to the development, the Chairman of APC stakeholders in the Daura zone, Rabe Yusuf, called for calm and urged members to refrain from actions capable of creating disunity within the party.
