The Kano State House of Assembly has called on the state government to urgently intervene in the diphtheria outbreak that has reportedly claimed the lives of more than 50 children in Rano Local Government Area.

The member representing Rano Constituency, Hon. Ibrahim Malami, made the call in a motion of urgent public importance presented before the House.

He said the outbreak had claimed over 50 children in Rurum A, Rurum B and Sabuwar Kaura communities, all in Rurum Ward of Rano Local Government Area.

Hon. Malami further disclosed that the local government’s medical department had already commenced emergency intervention, with support from the lawmaker through the provision of medical drugs.

He thanked members of the House for supporting the call for urgent government intervention to address the situation.

Meanwhile, the Kano State House of Assembly has approved and confirmed the nomination of Hon. Salihi Adamu as the new Secretary of Takai Local Government Area.

The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Jibril Ismail Falgore, announced the approval during Tuesday’s plenary following the presentation of a report by the House Committee on Local Government, chaired by Hon. Aliyu Muhammad.

The committee chairman said the recommendation was based on the nominee’s eligibility and capacity to perform the responsibilities of the office.
