From Umar Danladi Ado, Sokoto
The Sokoto State Hisbah Board has announced a ban on Eid celebrations held in venues where men and women mix without observing Islamic standards of modesty and religious guidelines.
The board also prohibited renting rooms to minors in hotels and banned the “short-time” lodging system in hotels and guest houses across the state.
This was contained in a statement issued under the board’s programme titled “Operation Tsaftace Birnin Shehu” (Operation Clean the City of Shehu).
According to the statement, the measure is part of the board’s efforts to uphold morality, protect Islamic culture, and promote acceptable societal conduct, especially during the Eid celebrations.
The board warned operators of recreational centres and hotels to comply with the new directive, stating that action would be taken against anyone found violating the rules.
