From Atiku Sarki, Abuja

As Muslims across the world, including Nigerians, prepare to celebrate Eid-el-Kabir on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, the Chairman of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore North Central, Alhaji Gidado Idris Bebeji, has called on Ardos and other Fulani leaders to caution their children against carrying dangerous weapons during the Sallah celebrations.

Alhaji Idris made the appeal during a meeting with Ardos and Fulani leaders held at his office in Mararaba Gurku, Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

He recalled that in previous years, some Fulani youths engaged in violent clashes among themselves during Sallah celebrations, often using dangerous weapons such as sticks, knives, and cutlasses.

According to him, the possession of such weapons easily leads to confrontation and violence, stressing that the youths can celebrate peacefully without being armed.

“I want to advise concerning our children who will go out for Sallah celebrations. We should not stop them from enjoying themselves on Sallah day as it has always been traditionally, but we must ensure that they do not carry weapons capable of causing harm to one another,” he said.

The Miyetti Allah North Central Chairman noted that the warning became necessary due to repeated incidents recorded during past celebrations, where some youths carried dangerous weapons and eventually engaged in fights.

Alhaji Idris also expressed concern over the conduct of some security outfits, particularly vigilante groups, accusing them of harassing Fulani people even in open marketplaces.

He said such actions portray Fulani people negatively before the public and called on governments at all levels, security agencies, and other stakeholders to address the challenges being faced by the community.

Speaking on the recent APC governorship primaries in Nasarawa State, Idris stated that Fulani people in the state remain fully supportive of the party at the state level.

However, he expressed dissatisfaction with the party’s treatment of Fulani people at the national level.

According to him, the repeated arrest and detention of the National President of Miyetti Allah, Alhaji Bello Bodejo, has created distrust among Fulani communities toward the ruling party ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

“What APC is doing at the national level is not in the best interest of Fulani people.

“Immediately after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was sworn in, they arrested our leader and detained him for six months.

“After his release, they arrested him again and later rearrested him after he declared interest in contesting for the progress of his people. We are seriously worried and may reconsider our support for the party in 2027,” he said.

He congratulated Senator Aliyu Ahmed Wadada on his emergence as the APC governorship candidate in Nasarawa State and assured him of the support of Fulani communities across the state.

Alhaji Idris further disclosed that Fulani communities in Nasarawa State would organize a week-long celebration in honour of Senator Wadada after the Sallah festivities.

He also commended the administration of Nasarawa State Governor, Engr. Abdullahi Sule, for ensuring peaceful coexistence in the state.

According to him, Fulani people in Nasarawa are living peacefully under the governor’s leadership without fear or intimidation.

On the recurring farmers-herders crisis, Alhaji Idris emphasized the need for peaceful coexistence, noting that farmers and herders had historically lived together harmoniously.

He urged communities to reject tribalism and embrace peace, unity, and mutual understanding for sustainable development.
