The Emir of Nguru, His Royal Highness Alhaji Mai Mustapha Ibn Kyari, has turbaned Engr. Mustapha Yunusa Maihaja as the Tafida of Nguru Emirate Council, a move hailed as a reinforcement of tradition, leadership, and service to the people.
The traditional appointment ceremony took place on Wednesday, December 25, at the Emir’s Palace in Nguru, Yobe State, attracting family members, community leaders, friends, associates, and well-wishers who gathered to witness the historic event.
Top security officials were also in attendance. The Chief of Army Staff, Major General Waidi Shu’aibu, was represented by the Sector Commander, Sector 2, North East, Operation Hadin Kai, Brigadier General Beyidi Markus Gura, while former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice-Admiral Auwal Zubairu Gambo, attended in person.
Their presence highlighted the growing synergy between traditional institutions and security agencies in maintaining peace and stability in the region.
During the turbaning, the Emir charged the new Tafida to uphold integrity, loyalty, justice, and service, urging him to support the emirate in promoting unity, development, and peaceful coexistence.
The Tafida title is one of the key traditional positions within the Nguru Emirate Council, with responsibilities that include advisory roles and community leadership. Observers said Engr. Maihaja’s appointment reflects confidence in his ability to bridge traditional authority with modern governance ideals.
Following the palace ceremony, the newly appointed Tafida announced appointments within his traditional household, naming Muhammad Yusuf Yunusa as Yerima of Tafida and Al’amin Mustapha Maihaja as Majidadi Dadi of Tafida, a move aimed at strengthening coordination and service delivery.
Guests and residents praised the appointments, describing them as well-considered and deserving. Community members expressed optimism that Tafida Maihaja would promote harmony, support youth development, and contribute meaningfully to the progress of Nguru Emirate.
The ceremony concluded with prayers for peace, progress, and continued stability in Nguru Emirate, Yobe State, and the nation at large.
