The Plateau State and the Federal Governments have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to ensure the smooth commencement of services at the Federal Medical Centre, Wase, and the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Jos.
The MoU was signed on Wednesday at the Federal Ministry of Health in Abuja, with the Minister of State for Health, Dr. Tunji Alausa, representing the Federal Government, and the Plateau State Governor Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, signing for the State.
Dr. Alausa praised Governor Mutfwang for his dedication to delivering effective and affordable healthcare services to the citizens of Plateau State.
He emphasized that the MoU signifies the beginning of improved and affordable healthcare delivery not only in Plateau State but also in neighbouring states.
The Minister further stated that the Federal Government, under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is working tirelessly to enhance the health system in the country and curb the “Japa” syndrome.
He highlighted partnerships with state governors, particularly the Lagos State Governor, to train doctors and provide conducive working conditions for them.
Also, Governor Mutfwang reiterated that the health care of citizens is a priority for his administration and commended the Health Ministers for their leadership and commitment to the sector.
He assured that the Federal Medical Centre, Wase, and the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Jos, would be maintained and sustained to ensure quality service delivery.
The Governor also emphasized the importance of working with National Assembly members to address the needs of Plateau citizens and commended the former Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Idris Wase, for sponsoring the bills that led to the establishment of these health institutions.
While calling for intensive training of health practitioners to meet international standards and advocated a reduction in the cost of drugs to make healthcare more affordable for the less privileged.
Also speaking Rt. Hon. Idris Wase noted that the establishment of the two health institutions would not only improve health service delivery but also create employment opportunities for the youth.
He commended Governor Mutfwang for providing the land and enabling environment for the take-off of the facilities and assured continued collaboration between the National Assembly and the State Government to provide effective services for the people.
