The Theatre Commander of Operation Fansan Yamma, Major General Oluyinka Olalekan Soyele, has called for increased local support in the ongoing effort to combat terrorism and banditry in the North West region.
In a statement issued in Abuja to Triumph by the Coordinator of the Joint Media Coordination Centre, Lieutenant Colonel Abubakar Abdullahi, Major General Soyele made the request during a courtesy visit by members of the Nigerian Legion, Zamfara State chapter, led by Aminu Ladan Madan. The visit took place on Wednesday, 27th November 2024, at the Theatre Command in Gusau, Zamfara State.
General Soyele emphasized that the reorganization of previous operations, including Operation Hadarin Daji and Operation Whirl Punch, into Operation Fansan Yamma was aimed at enhancing coordination and improving responses to terrorism and banditry in both the North West and Niger State. He highlighted the significant progress made, particularly in curbing banditry along the Gusau-Funtua highway, and assured attendees that troops remain on high alert to fulfill the operation’s mandate, with local support and intelligence playing a crucial role.
During the visit, Aminu Ladan Madan, Chairman of the Nigerian Legion, extended condolences on behalf of the Legion for the recent passing of former Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Taoreed Lagbaja. He expressed confidence in General Soyele’s leadership, noting his extensive experience and unwavering commitment to addressing the current security challenges. Madan also pledged the Legion’s full support for Operation Fansan Yamma, stressing the importance of collaboration between joint forces and local communities to create a safer environment.
Madan further thanked the Defense Headquarters for restructuring operations in the North West, calling it a necessary step to ensure effective collaboration and optimize resources in the fight against insecurity.
