The Gombe State Commissioner for Local Government and Community Development, Barr. Sani Ahmed Haruna, has charged the newly elected chairmen of the state’s 11 Local Government Councils and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) to uphold transparency, accountability, and the prudent management of public resources in the discharge of their responsibilities.
The commissioner gave the charge on Wednesday while presiding over the first Joint Account Allocation Committee (JAAC) meeting with the newly elected council chairmen at the Ministry’s Conference Hall in Gombe.
He said the people of Gombe State had entrusted the chairmen with the responsibility of driving development at the grassroots and urged them to justify that confidence through effective, inclusive, and people-centred leadership.
Barr. Haruna conveyed the message of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, urging the chairmen to remain committed to hard work, transparency, and accountability while ensuring the effective delivery of government programmes and services in their respective councils.
He also stressed the need for cordial working relationships between the Local Government Councils and the LCDAs, saying the development areas must work in harmony with their parent local governments to promote efficient service delivery and avoid administrative bottlenecks.
The commissioner directed that all requests for projects, interventions, and official correspondence from the councils should be routed through the Local Government Secretary or the Deputy Secretary, in line with established administrative procedures.
He further urged the council leaders to maintain proper documentation of official activities and safeguard confidential government records to enhance accountability and institutional efficiency.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Alhaji Shuaibu Ibrahim, congratulated the chairmen on their election and inauguration, assuring them of the ministry’s support in implementing the policies and development agenda of the state government.
The Director of Treasury later presented the monthly financial allocation and expenditure reports to the committee, explaining the distribution of funds and the financial position of the local governments.
The meeting was attended by the chairmen of the 11 Local Government Councils and LCDAs, directors of the ministry, the Director of Treasury, and other senior government officials.
