From Sani Gazas Chinade, Damaturu

Governor Mai Mala Buni on Saturday drew applause from residents of Kasaisa village as he mingled freely with members of the community during the flag-off of the 77-kilometre Damaturu–Buni Yadi–Magza road reconstruction project.

The project, undertaken by the North East Development Commission, is expected to enhance connectivity and boost commercial and socio-economic activities between Yobe and Borno states.

The ceremony attracted a large turnout of women, children and residents from Kasaisa and neighbouring communities, who gathered to witness the commencement of the road project.

Beyond the infrastructure milestone, the event spotlighted the governor’s interaction with the grassroots. In a departure from the usual strict ceremonial protocols, Buni stepped forward to exchange greetings and pleasantries with villagers, particularly women and children, amid cheers from the crowd.

Observers said the governor’s gesture underscored his accessible leadership style and efforts to maintain close ties with local communities.

The reconstruction of the Damaturu–Buni Yadi–Magza road is considered a strategic intervention aimed at improving transportation, stimulating trade and strengthening regional integration in the North-East.

Residents expressed optimism that the project would ease movement, enhance security access and open up economic opportunities along the corridor.
