Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has pledged his administration’s continued support for social media influencers in the state to help them achieve their professional goals and advance their careers.
The governor gave the assurance during a Ramadan Iftar hosted for over 300 influencers from various platforms, including Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), TikTok and others, at the Government House in Kano on Sunday.
This was contained in a statement issued by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mustapha Muhammad, on Monday.
According to the statement, the state government also announced plans to conduct a comprehensive data-mapping exercise of social media influencers in Kano to provide structured support that would help them actualise their professional aspirations.
The governor, who was represented by the Commissioner for Information, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, emphasised that the impact of social media in contemporary society cannot be overstated.
He said, “Social media influencers play a vital role in shaping public opinion and promoting development initiatives. As a government, we recognise their contributions and will continue to support them to grow professionally and contribute meaningfully to society.”
He noted that the role played by social media influencers during the 2023 electioneering campaign helped project the manifesto of the present administration and attracted thousands of voters to support the governor, popularly known as Abba Gida-Gida.
Yusuf also commended the influencers for sharing the activities of his administration across various platforms, enabling citizens and the global community to follow developments in the state.
“The support and dedication of these influencers during the 2023 electioneering campaign contributed significantly to the success of this administration. Their efforts in projecting government programmes and activities have also helped promote transparency and engagement with the people,” he added.
In their separate remarks, the Kano APC Youth Leader, Alhaji Salisu Yahya Hotoro, and the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Social Media, Alhaji Salisu Muhammad Gosawa, appreciated the influencers for their dedication and contributions.
They also applauded them for associating with Governor Yusuf and supporting efforts aimed at the development of the state.
